The Kingsvale Pump Station is undergoing a major upgrade. Over the next week the Kingsvale transformer and associated equipment will be moved from the Port of Vancouver to the Kingsvale Pump Station. The transformer will be transported on a lowboy truck on the Coquihalla Highway to the Coldwater Road exit, and then will travel along Coldwater Road to the Kingsvale site.
Transport of the transformer is expected to take place sometime between May 12 -15. The exact date has not been confirmed as it depends on MoTI review and permitting as well as Port traffic and vessel unloading times. Under current planning, the transformer will begin to travel on Coldwater Road starting at noon. It will take 1-2 hours to reach the Kingsvale Pump Station.
The load will be over height and over wide and so will restrict traffic flow as it travels on Coldwater Road to the Kingsvale Pump Station. The truck will be escorted by pilot cars as required by the MoTI permit. Traffic Management Personnel will be onsite to control traffic flow until the transport has reached a spot safe for traffic to pass. Emergency vehicles will be given immediate access as soon as the transport can allow safe passage.
A second piece of large equipment is anticipated to be transported to the Kingsvale Pump Station on June 1. Transportation of this equipment is also likely to require traffic management on Coldwater Road. More information will be provided as soon as it is available.
